lionheart

lions,
in spite of mass and
regal power
are still
feline at heart;
never coming when they’re called,
snarling into their dens
clear in the knowledge
that anyone who interferes
qualifies as
lunch,
(even if they do
taste like chicken.)
i never could abide a house cat
(gratefully allergic,)
but lions?
they just do something to me.
i watch them
sauntering back and forth
with centered grace
never needing to prove a thing
to anyone,
and when they love
they love ferociously,
as fiercely as they hunt;
it arrests me,
leaving me craving
what they offer,
knowing full well
that if i ask
i will become

lunch.

Impassioned by its independence, prowess, regal power, confidence and self awareness... you admire these attributes… perhaps they embody the sum of things you hope to be – if you are not already
