a rope to hang by

desire and common sense

play tug of war

held in stark tension

barely moving a millimeter

in either direction

common sense

tightens its grip

well-developed, muscular fingers

dig in

like iron tent pegs

holding up my illusions;

desire counters

through gritted teeth

and powerful will

defying death and defeat

stretching energy like taffy

to have its way;

& all would be well

if I

were not

the rope.

Well thought out. I liked the war you describe and the pulling. "The soul is often a battlefield, where your reason and judgement wage war against your passion and desire".

I liked the way you 'tied' these two together (LOL)... but "what if" common sense 'desires' to have a little fun...
