Silly vase of flowers
Sometimes I lie here
Pretending I'm next to you
Breathing with you;
Dreaming with you
I lie here and wait
For my fantasy to become something more

Numbers on the clock increase
As I slowly close my eyes
I embrace a pillow within my arms
And secretly wish I will wake up
With you there beside me
Holding me;
Holding you
With a mutual passion only one can describe
With silence clean and pure

I run my fingertips gently but quickly
Down my arms
And I question myself if you ever feel the same
And perhaps,
For a brief moment,
As you fall asleep a memory of me will slip
Through your mind, into your thoughts
As you close your eyes
Gently smiling as you say to yourself:
"Yes, I feel the same."

So I relax my arms
Take a deep breath
I look over my shoulder
And whisper goodnight to a vase of dried up Irises
I couldn't let go of
I smile and say goodnight
As I roll over and hit the light switch.

Patiently waiting for the time to come
Where I shuffle out of bed and say
"Good morning."
To a silly vase of dried up Irises
I was too pathetically in love
To let go of.
