Emerald Stars in My Eyes

Momentary Perfection

New beginnings awakened by

Sparking white teeth

Charcoal speckled hair

With hints of muted energy-efficient lighting

Or maybe it’s just

The emerald stars in my eyes

Quiet softness

Silence broken

With a hint of passive aggressiveness

Delicate by nature

The thick dark veins of your hands

Combine with shades of olive in your skin

Adding to my pure fascination

Of this moment within my grasp

Blissful emotion

Such a beautiful place

Almost as charming as the person sitting

A mere table’s width away

I am a frozen deer lost

In the headlights of this moment

Melted only by the soft firm grip

Of your hand

Temporary discomfort

Quickly I escape

To hurried hallways and locked doors

Scrunching my dark Israeli hair

Nervously between my fingertips

I tug my sweater and exhale

 “I can do this”

To the frightened girl gazing through the mirror

Reflection

Renewed composure

Returning to the 1001 mixed emotions

I must find my way through

With the help of your quiet voice

Escaping only through the softness of your eyes

And delicate fingertips

In the headlights of this moment

I am a frozen deer lost

With emerald stars in my eyes.
