Battle of My Own Doing

The way you walk

Reminds me of how my heart breaks

Whenever I find myself

Locked away in some distant land

Some dark & dreary tower

As I wait for you to break me free

Of this battle of my own doing

No matter how long I wait

No matter how hard I pray

You’re still fighting dreaded dragons

In this self-inflicted cocoon

You’ve weaved yourself

 Of impassable knitted walls

You claim must come before me

I sit in my darkness

With wandering thoughts

Of jealousy, disgust, and sorrow

With a constant reminder

Of your admirable loyalties

I cannot penetrate

With untamed dragons

Forced within your mind

You have captured me

You imprison my devoted heart

Inside this darkened castle

As I wait for you to break me free

Of this battle of my own doing

This reminds me that prisons are not always walled ones of concrete. They also can be of/in our own minds, which can be harder to deal with that real prisons.
