September 20th

© 2009 Scottie Allman

Damaged and broken,

Alone in a crowded room.

Friends and I wonder,

Will I ever be over her?

The pain that she has handed out,

Is like none I have ever felt.

To know that it is meant by her,

Leaves in me unseen welts.

So each day when I meet the dawn,

I’m greeted by a scar,

That shows forever on my chest,

And lives within my heart.

Borne upon me the day she left,

Shattering our family right then.

Breaking her promise to love me,

Forever my heart to keep.

The misery that is my life,

Brings her a new found joy.

To watch me suffer and live this pain,

Is what she wants from me.

It is the price she exacts each day,

Since she walked out on me.

And soon the anniversary

That now shall never come,

Will be upon me before too long,

With hurt and emptiness
