The Composition of Life
A few moments in soprano—soaring high above the rest
blend with several occasions of tenor and baritone.
Still I’m known as the perfect alto
creating melodious harmonies where none existed.
This life once rested in middle C, neither high nor low just average;
until the day I gave the composer permission to rearrange me.
To my surprise he wrote an aria that only I could sing;
filled with crescendos, sharps and flats.
Crossing the bridge from average to extraordinary
helped to create the eclectic me that stands today.
Whether on 5th with Beethoven, a choir loft in Harlem
or marching with a zydeco band in the Quarter...music is me!
Please don’t let the jazzy blues or silky crooning fool you;
there’s still a lot rhythm in the bass of my soul.
Indeed...it's the mic, the pen and the wind
that blend seamlessly to create the chord that my heart sings.
