my enemy

Looking past my enemy
I see a land that's shining
My enemy he sees me
He sees that Ive been crying
The birds have stopped their singing
The trees have lost their leaves
But I cant beat my enemy

Theres no one to defeat
Until I beat the enemy in me

Looking past my enemy
I see a land united
My enemy he sees me
He sees that Im divided
And every finger that we point
At tenets you and I dont keep
Bold-faced ignorance
In honor of false liberties

Looking past my enemy
People sleeping soundly in their beds
And for some reason you say
I have to tear my enemy to shreds
I cannot question why
Or you will label me a traitor
Freedom hater
Perhaps I cant change the world
But Im willing to try

Looking past my enemy
People holding hands the same as mine
Why should it matter if the roads they build
Are not the same design
And every finger that we point
At  you and I dont keep
Bold ignorance
In honor of false liberties

I cant live blindly anymore
I cannot say that I am right
But now at least my eyes are opening
I cant live blindly anymore

Looking past my enemy
People doing what they feel is right
And for some reason that means
I have to call my enemy to fight
I cannot question why
Or you will label me a traitor
Freedom hater
Perhaps I cant change the world
But Im willing to try

this work is outstanding- and your titles rock. for me the title can make or break the piece and you chose a winner here. but somehow even if you chose a silly or crappy title...this still would be wonderful- its thought out, flows, and allows the reader to grasp it line by line. -not much imagery, but this type of work doesnt need it. the meaning speaks for itself
