Make Believe

02/05/2011

Nessa Monroe

I have touched you…

My hands against your unshaven skin.

I have known you—all of you—

As you have rarely been…

I don’t know if you are

Genuine, or even kind;

But I love my body against yours…

I love it when you are mine.

We can pretend for

A moment that we can be….

I can pretend for a little while

That you do love me.

And I have felt you,

Pressing into me…

And I have fallen for

What we could potentially be…

But, no,

Walk away, please.

You are the kind of heartache

That nobody needs….

And I will remember

That I touched you…once upon a time.

And I will remember

How brightly

You and I used to shine.

Yes, I will remember

The days when

You pretended to be mine.
