Guilt

I wanted to die the moment I looked upon the face of evil as he took me. I wanted to die the moment my secret was told. I couldn't live knowing I had let the devil overpower me and wrap me in a tight hold. I couldn't look upon the angels who cried for me, holding me, sheltering me.

I couldn't go back to the way things were, not when I knew my terrible state was because of my carelessness. So ashamed I was to be living a life that had become broken in the eyes of society., when in truth, I was the one to blame. Now I stand growing a new being inside of me, a life not meant to be born. How guilty I feel towards the angels who cry when the moon is raised and the earth is still.

How ashamed I feel, to still be in love with the very evil that had torn me apart. And while the angels beg and plead, all I can think of is that tempting seed of everlasting fruit, forbidden to me by the eyes that see and unsee everything surrounding me. Guilt a greed are the sins of which I can not hide. They will be my destruction one night, and end the life which was made on that night.

star poet is point on with the take on this wonderful poem. i had preconceived notions of what to expect with the simple title. but when i read it, it was real, and such an adventure in anger, emotion, curiousity. i really liked this poem a great deal. great work! thanks for sharing. (Oh I see your note about this being purely fiction...good thing...and really good poets do make readers think it is ever so real!) so glad you cleared that up. great poem!

Fiction and truth all rolled into one. Though this is fiction, I am sure it has happened to many a person. But you told their story here very well. And the feelings of despair and confusion you tell just leap out at you as you read. Great work!
