Escape
He woke, as the light grew
Then flashed upon his face
And rose in some bewilderment
Not knowing this new place

How did he come to be here
What happened yesterday
Was he caught up in some pub brawl
Was he part of an affray

The room was clearly bolted
Stout bars crossed window frame
His mind was now so cloudy
He did not feel the same

He peeked into the corridor
Through a slit left in the door
Though it gave him no more info
Just a baron concrete floor

He could not clear his memory
Or see the past as clear
Then he heard a sound reverberate
He knew someone was near

A rattle of a key fob
A scraping at the door
Then as his captures showed themselves
He feared what was in store

It was clear he was a hostage
He knew not how or why
Though he knew he must escape from this
He must at least now try

These people were so brutal
They cared not what they did
And it just cemented all his will
To complete his, escape bid

By day he took the torture
The lengthy hard abuse
Though as the lights extingwished
He put a spoon to use

The mortar twixt the bricking
Was elderly and dry
With patients he was able
To loosen and to pry

At last his work completed
He waited for the dark
Then made his bid for freedom
Well before the morning lark

The woods offered some cover
He made it easily
Then continued at a pace from there
And finally was free
