tryst
they always knew they would meet
it was just a case of working out
a place and time
somewhere that suited them both
where they both knew there would be
nothing to distract them

no kids, no phones, no jobs
no unexpected knocks on the door
from strangers wanting donations
for this or that needy group
when the only ones with any needs
were the two of them and their need for each other

from the moment he opened the door
and saw her standing there, it felt right
like it was meant to be
it was as if he had known her for years
and what they were about to do
was something they had done many times before

they consummated their love
inside that stark hotel room
but gave no heed to their surroundings
other than to the softness of the mattress
and the warmth of skin on skin
their passion overriding all conscious thought

too soon it was over and she had to leave
to return to her other life
the one that didn't involve him
he hopes that soon they can meet again
but if not, the memories will never fade
of a blissful day wrapped in love

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart
