sleep watching
you lie beside me sleeping
long slow even breaths
keeping time with the rhythmic
tick tock tick tock
of the old clock on the wall

many are the times
I've stayed awake
just to watch you sleep
observed the sheets rise and fall
with every breath
savoured the essence
that makes you
you

sometimes you'll awaken
pull me close
wrap your arms around me
so together
we drift into sleep
forming a symmetry
all our own

I like the simple beauty of this. To see your loved one sleeping as you gaze upon him/her thinking. I wrote something close to this with my poem "Of Love and Dreams"

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart
