faded music
an old gramophone plays softly in the corner
forgotten hits from long ago
from a time when big bands were all the rage
catchy jazz tunes rasped inside well concealed speak easys
and dancers swung to the beat of swing

a time before the first jagged notes of rock and roll
crashed helter skelter onto the hit parade
before rockabilly and R and B
caused frenzy on the dance floors
and before the Big Bopper
bopped his final tune

I listen to a radio program on NPR(--you may not get it up there)but they play ancient jazz and blues from the 1920's---fantastic stuff, 'tinny' recordngs, then the 30's with the strong drumbeats, and Billie Holliday--what a voice!
