World of Lies

World of Lies

By: Kayla Meyers

The human eye is trained to see
The image on the surface
What people don’t understand
Is we have the ability to see deeper
Our heart’s eyes look through the lies
Straight down to the bare truth
Over time we just choose not to use our second sight
Maybe because we’re afraid to see what’s really there
Or maybe we just don’t care to know
But if we try we will come to another realm of understanding
Where all our questions will be answered
First though, we must look deep down into our own souls
To find out whom we really are,
Because if we can’t see our own truth
How can we expect to see others?
It hurts us when people lie
But all along we’ve been lying to ourselves
We’ve chosen not to use our hearts
To make our second set of eyes blind
But they are still inside
Waiting for the chance to reopen
Next time you see someone smiling
Take a second look
If you do maybe then you’ll see
You’re not the only one who’s been hurting

I agree with you whole-heartedly. So many people refuse to see past themselves, so many people just don't care to know. Wonderfully written.

dancipa68- I know exactly what you mean as I'm the same way. And you're right, the people who see and experience the real us are lucky; they get to see past the veneer and down to what's inside. Glad you could relate to this poem.

I'm the one that hides and people choose not to see. It is the very rare soul that sees past my smiles. I'd say that makes them the lucky ones...they get the real me. Excellent poem!!

Thank you guys, it's nice to hear that even my earlier work that I don't find as technically well-written can still have resonance with people. I appreciate it very deeply.

There is a balance of life; for every positive there will be a negative, and with every negative soon will come a positive. If you hold on long enough through all the bad, you'll be able to find something wonderful and cherish it all that much more.

Again something I wrote at a very young age, which is probably very apparent.
