The End Approaches

The End Approaches

By

Jerry Wayne Humphrey

Another family member’s time approaches now

We who are left behind must find strength to carry on somehow

We can only gather around and wait for their life to end

There will be loved ones left behind with broken hearts to mend

We will miss them when they are gone away

We will miss their presence and the things they used to say

We will wish we had spent more time with them when they were here

We love them so and long to have them near

But the end of their time is coming fast

Soon they will be truly free at last

They will be free from this world of toil and strife

They will now move on to another life

Where they now are going its wonders we can’t comprehend

For them it is the beginning and not the end

We weep for ourselves who are still here in this world of misery and despair

They have finally graduated and move on but we are left, it hardly seems fair

But we must now wish them well and Godspeed

We still have work to do here on earth, much work indeed

Someday the time will come for us to go so we can only say

Let us hope those left will wish us well that day

In this writing room I find many poems. They are beautiful and many perhaps meant for specific stages in our lives. And this poem is another beautiful thought reminding us softly about the last lag of our journey. Thanks.
