The Day My Mother Died

The Day My Mother Died
By

The day that my dear mother died

I was a soldier far away and couldn't be by her side

To get home for her funeral I had to spend many hours in the air

I had to borrow money just for the fare

When I arrived she had already been placed in her case

She looked so beautiful with a smile on her face

She had a hard life and now it was her turn to rest

Of all the mothers I have known, to me she was the best

She was a young woman still in her prime

Some say it was tragic she had to go before her time

The Lord above knew how hard her life had been

I think he opened his arms and said, my child come in

All who knew her loved her and we all miss her still

She is in our hearts and minds and always will

She rests now with her mom and dad and sisters so dear

When I visit her grave I can't help shed a tear

It's been many years since she went away

I still wish at times she were here with me today

But I am glad she is there in heaven above

She deserves a place of beauty filled with joy and love

If I work hard at being good someday with her I will be

It must be so wonderful there so much love and beauty to see
