The release of FOX's "The Simpsons Movie" was a big deal to many of you out there who have been watching Homer for many many years now. I remember when i was a little boy and i would hear that unforgettable intro song come on and i would run to the tv room just in enough time to see homer and family line up on the coutch. Not far behind me though was my mother who thought that it was a horrible show because of barts comments or homers behavior and would imemdeitly shut it down. I kept watching though when i could and i have a huge admiration and respect for Matt Groening today because he made me sneak around my house to watch it cause it made me laugh and i still watch it today and love it just as much. Matt was faced with some problems when he decided he was going to produce the motion pitcture the same way as he did the television show, traditionally animated the old way and proud of it. Going from an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 which is a television ratio to a 2.35:1 on the big screen. For one this means there a lot more frame to fill up, but not with faces. Matt couldn't do extreme close ups like you would see with other movie star characters because when you would get that close all you would get is two huge eyeballs that look like headlights and a nose in a field of yellow. So the creators had to fill in the rest with more detailed shots of the town or whatever might be incorporated in the shot. They used Maya based software for the backgrounds and animation software for the compositing. When all and all was said and done the movie looks great and still looks as though they jumped from the tv to the big screen without changing the originality of it.
