The Sears Tower proudly holds the title of the tallest skyscraper in America. Construction commenced in August 1970, however, this building didn’t reach its anticipated maximum height on May 3, 1973. In 1982, two television antennas were added to the structure, increasing its total height to 1,721 ft. It was commissioned and constructed for the Sears, Roeuck and Company for an estimated $175 million dollars. Sears occupied 3 million square feet of the building until 1993. It was then that Sears began moving its offices out of the Sears Tower in and completely vacated the building by 1995. Tourists may visit the Sears Tower Skydeck, located on the 103rd floor, and experience how the building sways in the wind.  On a clear day one can gaze over the plains of Illinois, across Lake Michigan to Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.
