The Act
The act of acting
Changing the tone
The art of convincing the other is home

Gets under your skin
Into your veins
Coursing throughout your most intimate plane

The feel to escape
Trappings of self
Release the emotions to purge for your health

We long to be others
To see through new eyes
Each pretend finds new portholes to visit, reprise

Insights found
Fear sometimes lost
Advantages plenty but where lies the cost

How often each day
Are you not who you are
Replaced with an essence to cover old scars

Hide the deficient
Push down the unique
Our tact is an act in itself it would seem

Too often your truth
Reserved just for you
Stays buried inside for no other to view

If the brave wind
Rushed the pure font
Opened free one's defense without care of response

A flow should arise
For none should be dammed
Let loose innate splendor as unchecked by all man

Shaming the beauty
Locked down tight in the deeping
No light ever seen for the sake of safe keeping

How much have all lost
For others' sense of the proper
To look as if rich but inside lives the pauper

Displaying the strength
Disguising the meek
Masking or marking as best makes the sheep
