Farewell
Farewell

There does come a time in life
When sometimes we must say goodbye
To dreams and hopes that we shared
That were like rainbows in the sky

For rainbows are not permanent
Though their beauty can be seen for awhile
Sometimes our dreams are like that
Made with love and created with a smile

They seem so real at the time
And their beauty is there in our hearts
We make plans for the future
For that is the beginning, that is where it all starts

But those plans are not always fulfilled
Things can change along the way
Dreams that were made for tomorrow
May never be completed on that day

It does not mean that we give up dreaming
Or give up on making our wishes come true
We just need to know that there can be changes
To the dreams and wishes made by me, and by you

We have all heard that old saying
Of “What will be, will be”
For not all dreams are meant to happen
Not all wishes will become reality

This is what has happened to us
To the dreams and wishes we shared
They ran the course of their existence
They were felt, because we both truly cared

But like those beautiful rainbows
That we see up in the sky
Time has faded the beauty of our dreams
And it’s now time for us to say goodbye

Though “farewell” might sound like forever
And “goodbye” might seem like the end
In my heart you will always remain
With those dreams and wishes that we made, as friends.

Hold on to your dreams Dee. They are the breath, the essence and the life of our souls. Where would we be without them... "My people perish for lack of vision", and my fellows die for 'lack of hope'

Thank you for sharing this hearfelt, heart-wrenching poem. I identify with it because of the way my marriage ended. Pitch perfect! Nice to see that friendship can grow from the death of love.

Well said. And even though there is pain, there is also hope that a friendship will still remain. A truly forgiving heart.

Synopsis
This was written after the ending of a relationship. A time of sadness but also of knowing that anything is possible for the future. Everything happens for a reason, even if we don't always know what that reason is at the time that it happens. What will be, will be.
