Prairie Evening
The prairie sky turned yellow tonight,  not its usual red hue
the air got hot as the wind died around the maple leaves
making the skin sticky, parched from the early sun.

Stretched out on my sheets, the glowing sky gave way
the light air from a cooling fan, restless thoughts inside my head
nothing between me and feeling of a summers breath.

So quiet tonight, just me, alone, wishing to have someone near
to bring a cooling kiss to my lips that might make the sky burn with passion
bring that red of the evening sky back to me.
