Is Your Home A Toxic Time Bomb?

For years I have worked at keeping my family healthy. I have treated us with herbals and essential oils for many of the everyday illnesses and injuries that occur. I knew that certain dangers could not be avoided. The quality of our air, pesticides on our foods, chemicals in the makeup of our floors, carpets, furniture and so on. However, for the most part I thought I had a handle on those ailments that we suffered from, I kept my home clean with products from my local stores that reduced allergens in the air, disinfected surfaces and took deep grim off my floor and our clothes. I trusted these things because if they could be bought in the store they were safe ... right?

Well, recently I found out I was so very wrong. I have basically been slowly poisoning my family every time I cleaned my kitchen or bathroom. Took the dust off my furniture and sprayed the air with freshener. Each time I washed our clothes, sheets and towels. These everyday products I was buying to keep my family safe from illness and disease were in fact contributing to our very health problems. Toxic chemicals within them all were entering our bodies through inhalation and skin absorption leading to chronic toxicity. Each day we use a combination of any number of products from toothpaste to laundry detergent and are unaware of the health hazards we are exposing ourselves and our families to.

When you imagine that within a day you are mixing the combined chemicals of mouthwash, toothpaste, body soap, shampoo with the added chemicals of dish soap, floor cleaner, furniture polish and window cleaner. You have a daily toxic soup of chemicals some of which are never excreted from our bodies but build up slowly to lead to health problems. Some of which include; asthma, psoriasis, high blood pressure, heart disease, cancers of all kinds, mental disorders and numerous others. The risk to adults is dangerous but to our children it can be devastating.

Each year there is a significant rise in many adult and childhood diseases. Children are at higher risk because they take in more pollutants. This includes what they inhale when we clean our homes to keep them safe. They put more things in their mouths including their hands which have residue from soaps and cleaning products used on things they touch.. Their bodies absorb more of these chemicals then an adult absorbs. The pressing issues for children today are Asthma, childhood cancers, nervous system disorders, ADD, learning disorders (caused by environmental neurotoxins) and the effects of endocrine disrupters (synthetic chemicals that mimic or block the body's natural hormones and interfering with its normal hormonal activity). Birth defects rank closely under these and exposure to toxic chemicals cause 7% to 11% of these.

"A NIOSH study stated that 314 chemicals present in personal care products can cause biological mutations. Many of these chemicals, including known carcinogens (cancer causing agents), can reach the unborn child in the womb." The information goes on and on and gets more distressing and mind boggling as you find it. "The laws our government have do not protect us from the 17,000 chemicals that appear in common household products, only 30% have been adequately tested for their negative effects on our health; less then 10% have been tested for their effects on the nervous system; and nothing is known about the combined effects of these chemicals when mixed within our bodies." (** see quote resources at bottom of article)

The NIOSH research was requested by a House subcommittee and 2,983 chemicals in personal care products were tested. The results were as follows: 884 were toxic, 314 caused biological mutations, 218 cause reproductive complications, and 778 caused acute toxicity. Shampoos, dandruff shampoos, deodorant soaps, mousse/hairspray, mouthwash, breath spray, cosmetics and perfume/colognes can all cause cancer. Makes you go WHAT? doesn't it.

So what do we do? There are a multitude of things we can do to demand a change in the system of balances that allow these products to legally enter our home. A more immediate solution is to turn you home green. One of the reasons I found out about this and I am writing this article is to let you know there are changes you can make to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. My education began when Scott met a young man who began to talk to him about these things. He showed us a variety of videos and sent us information on many of these issues. He works with his mom from home to help educate people on how to shop to change the dangers in their home and make it chemical free. I have spent the last few months replacing the cleaning aids, bath and body products some supplements and snacks and laundry products with all green natural products and the results have been nothing short of miraculous to me.

My daily allergy symptoms are gone ... no watering eyes, nasal congestion and coughing. My respiratory problems have not flared in over two months. He told us what to buy to help my sons psoriasis and it worked better then anything I ever mixed up and lasted longer. Not to mention each bout shows less and less of the symptoms. Scott's dental problems are now nonexistent and his last cleaning consisted of sitting down and getting back up because there was no plaque. Even my dogs hot spots are under control and quickly gotten rid of when they occur. I am losing the extra weight I put on after my accident at about 7 lb. per week. This with no diet change or exercise and I even have more vitality then I have had in ages! Let me tell you I am sold on this stuff!

This young man is a wonder in our life now, if I had the power I would make him and his mom saints. They never tire of our questions and they are always there to help us. His name is Adam and he and his mom represent a company that makes truly natural products. If you would like to "go green" you can contact them at his site http://atrisler.WhyWellness.com. On the last page is a form to fill out that allows him to contact you by e-mail or phone. You can even specify which you prefer in the question/comment section.

If this article has caused you to think twice about the many dangers of our store bought products then I urge you to get in touch with him. He can help you in so many different ways and can do almost all of it by Internet so no large phone bills are needed. They are not pushy and don't try to sell you anything they just introduce you to an online store that is much like a Sam's or Cosco where you can buy products at wholesale prices.

I hope that many of you find this information useful and will look into moving away from the toxic products we buy everyday. The good news is it won't cost you any extra money because you are only switching stores and spending the money you normally would for these products. It has been a major health blessing to us so I wanted to share it with my friends.

It has already eliminated many of the health conditions in my home and I continue to be amazed at the multitude of ways to use the products. Good luck on you adventure to a chemical free home!

Now you have me thinking AGAIN on something I have thought about before. All the chemicals we put in and on our bodies, I sure they are doing a lot of harm. And then when you read some of the names of them, you wonder why is it in the product AND what is it's effect on the body. Thanks for waking me up to this again. I will definitely go on their site!
