From Scarcity Comes Gratitude
From Scarcity Gratitude Comes

By Bernadette Dunn

I am grateful for the many blessings in my life more so for all the times I did not feel blessed.  It's those times when horrid despair was my companion in confusion and worry I grew my abiding gratitude for my life.  The memories of hunger unappeased, the shame of a free lunch scorned and the blame misplaced for circumstances out of control.  I treasure the abundance of food and nourishment for my body and soul.  The sites of unabated poverty endured in a third world country I was born.  The piles of trash that were homes.  The cloying stench of  open and untreated sewers along the streets.  Dirty skinny bodies in unwashed clothes.  The hopelessness of no jobs and no skills to work supporting a family.
