I Thank You Lord

I Thank You Lord

The storm came on before its time

Worse beyond all others of its kind

It raged inside me indescribably sore

Till I was thirty-eight years of age, not more

Only then did the hostility subside - when

You allowed me to return to my natural mind

No more self-destruction, no more self-inflicted strife

No more wallowing in self-pity, only a renewal of my life!

I learned from you that I was greater than I knew

While the sweet breath of heaven allowed me to be true

To myself and to this life, that you gave to me freely

Free will, free choice, because you love me

The storm that came before its time, that was

Worse beyond all others of its kind is

No more a recognized torrential fear of mine,

Because you have impregnated and elevated my mind!

I thank you Lord

For saving me from my own minds bottomless abyss

Thru my own sad incompetence I sorely was amiss

Like some lonely traveler I was lost and felt I was alone

But for your loving mercy, I’m no more bewildered and forlorn

I Thank You Lord
