Intriguing Is This Silence

Intriguing is this silence

within the catacomb

known as chrysalis. Music shall be borne

aloft as butterfly wings swiftly ascend

from the caterpillar’s final breath.

There are no tombstones tilted in sunlight,

no murmured epitaphs upon those bare branches

where dreams were once made,

no stuttered corpses to mourn

with accolade or dirge.

Stained glass templates arise, drifting

on winds warm with promise, seeking soil braided

with flowers’ slow hum -

a shattering tribute to what came before flight.

Intriguing is this silence

There are tombstones tilted in sunlight

Stained glass templates arise, drifting

A poem of mine has been accepted for the "Clackamas Literary Review". Another poem, "Recipe For Success As A Poet", has been accepted for publication in a quarterly, the "Main Street Rag", out of Charlotte, NC. It's a prestigious publication that's been around for about 15 years. It will be published sometime in 2010. Yay! Real "Street" cred!!!

My poem "Procession" won second place in the September 2009 WritingRoom contest. My poem, "Intriguing is This Silence" won first place in the June 2009 WritingRoom contest. My poem "Phenomenal With Shadows" won second place in the May 2009 Poetry contest at WritingRoom. It will be included in their next anthology and is presently being displayed on Poetrydances.com, where I am a featured writer. I've been writing poetry since 1973. I'll be 52 in September 2010. I'm married to a brilliant writer and musician. I am a (former) college librarian with experience in editing, proofreading and journalism (largely in the construction news reporting field), among other varied professions.
My poetry is included in the "Eyes of a Poet" anthology, as well as the Allpoetry anthology, "First is Feeling". I've had 78 additional poems published in various anthologies over the years, including the “Oak Bend Review”, which is listed with “Poets&Writers” magazine. My first book, "Swanee Sighs", came out in May 2006. I'm currently gathering material for another book. No idea when it will be published as yet. This latest publication is, of course, thanks to Danny's unceasing and tireless work in submitting many of my poems to numerous magazines these past few months. I just wrote them. (hehe) We are both continuing to write and submit as fast as our fingers can carry us. Wish us good luck!

In addition, my poem, "Slow Dance With Neruda" was featured at the World Poetry Proudly Presents the 102nd birthday of the Chilean Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda on July 31, 2006 at the Vancouver Public Library. I was shocked and pleased by my poem's inclusion at such a prestigious event. My poem runs at the end of the dvd that was recorded, trailing across the screen slowly, much like the credits do, accompanied by Spanish guitar. Three consulate ambassadors were there, including the Consul General of Chile, Maria Eliana Cuevas, as well as Neruda's wife, who sang a beautiful song. Many, if not all, of the poets reading his work had actually met and knew Neruda. Another poem was on display at the John Lennon Tower in Iceland. I've had a few poems on display in Vancouver as well as having a few of my poems read on the World Poetry Cafe radio station, broadcast from Vancouver. I take the art and craft of creativity very seriously, as it is a gift we've all been given to enhance our lives, to help us evolve as human beings.

I also have over 1100 poems posted (down from 4000; I've been deleting older posts recently) on Allpoetry.com; I've been a member there for 5 years and I am always looking for places to display my work and to discover other serious and talented writers, too.
