Project # 7: Capstone Concept Pitch

Capstone Concept Pitch: ‘Cain and able…’

Synopsis:

A study of human nature and psyche when one feels life has gone a rye; a story that follows Cain Adamson to a local coffee house. He finds himself in midst of a poetry reading and is taken by surprise when a regular there, Ella, captivates him with lyrical splendor.

Theme:

“When life gets you down…”  (Human frailty and breaking points)

Project Title:

The title I chose, ‘Cain and able…’ utilizes a play on words. The biblical reference to the ‘Cain and Abel’ story is about two brothers, the sons of Adam and Eve. Cain offers his brother able as a sacrifice and is noted in the bible as the first murderer. With my twist on word play I hope to ensue a story that helps people realize that sometimes we have to “kill” the negative thoughts inside ourselves in order to realize how precious life is.

Target Audience:

The demographic would be geared towards both men and women ages 16 to 35. This is indeed a wide appeal, but I feel as though the characters are persons that most people can relate to. A younger audience would be taken with the animation properties of the story along with the basic human notion that life isn’t always what it seems to be. When you are in an impressionable state of mind such as your late teens, this tends to be the time where one tries to figure themselves out. This is noted to carry on into your early thirties as well. Questions arising such as “have I done all I can with life?” or “is there something different that I could have done along the way?” would engage a vast appeal.  Experience throughout one’s lifetime instills attachment of some sort, and helps us to become the person we are today.

Method:

Flash Animation/ 3D Animation

Resources:

The issues the characters face all derive from my own personal experiences and questioning. When someone thinks they are the only one to feel a certain way hopefully they can find solace in understanding that they are not alone. From the immensity of life’s challenges, to the little quirks that tick us off, I hope that my passions for animation and poetry will see my project through.

Research:

A scene from the animated feature ‘Rock and Rule’.
