The Newly Downtrodden
She had been one of those few people who desperately longed to see the good in people.  As a child she had no fear of strangers.  To her everyone was perfect.
As childhood fled her optimism remained.  She was an idealist and romantic.  World peace, curing cancer, fighting world hunger, and saving whales were her concerns.  To her war made absolutely no sense, and a global utopia seemed entirely feasible.
    Then the world crushed her.
    Friends...betrayal.
    College...confusion.
    Mugged...twice.
    Raped...hardened.
    Boyfriend...deceived...cheater.
    Alone...depressed...lost.
    Drugs...numbness.
In a few short years she was reborn, made into the image of the world.  One of those rare few possessing the ability to love and see others as God does was crushed.  Once a shining star of hope in a world of darkness, she became one of the down-trodden.  The world felt no pleasure in this.  It hadn't even noticed.

Live it, think about it, even write about it, ....but never allow it to make you feel as though you want or even need to claim it!!! Just as you once felt...keep living, I promise you - you'll feel it again, only then, you'll have lived a bit longer and will be able to put it all in it's prospective places! The world feels no pleasure in anything! It never notices...but you will! You - she- or whomever it is you've written about here, is still "A shining star of hope"...overcoming this world of darkness...the very reason you've written this very beautiful poem! I truly admire poets who write what they feel...what is in their hearts...because for me, this is what poetry is all about...what is on the inside and having the ability to put it to pen & paper, computer, etc....and make the reader think about and understand where you are coming from. Again, for me...poets tell a story and this is exactly what you have done with the writing of this poem. Beautiful, and I gladly rate you a 10!

Another true life story. Again I ask: How many are out there like this? Your truth is so real and that's what I like.
