No one to blame

He sat in a comfy chair
his legs straight out
arms resting heavily
body sunk down     deep
into the cushion.
With a stretch and a yawn
he reached for the phone
just to make sure it still
worked.

It had only been three days.
He looked around the room
saw her favorite pair of
sunglasses     the ones she
always wore when they walked
down to the beach     she had left them 
on top of the tv.

He picked up the glasses
slipped them on     sat back
in the chair and continued
to flip through the channels.

You leave open the possibility of a call, but yet at the same time, the missing has begun. The wondering of what may happen in the future . . . .
