Addiction
Haphazard,
This virus gains control,
No fighting,
As this eats me whole.

No mercy,
It surely will infect,
A time bomb,
It kills with no respect.

Shaking,
I know where it will take me,
It beckons,
Then soon it will rape me.

I follow,
Fighting my repulsion,
Then shiver,
As I endure convulsions.

I hate this,
It slowly enters in,
Transforming,
I become the devil's kin.

I vomit,
Until I only dry heave,
Muscles cramping,
Waiting for poison to leave.

No yielding,
For once I will resist,
I am so scared,
I beg you to desist.

Thanks for sharing. Well written. I cannot begin to know what it is like but through the painted imagery I can get an idea.

This is a poem that I totally relate to, as I was a complete drug addit for 24 years of my life! I got high every single day and honestly thought that I would never stop! But there was that day, when I looked in the mirror and saw ME for who I really was, and decided right then, that I was done! I understand every word that that you've written as I can remember the pain, yet the most powerful words in this poem are the last ones that you wrote: "No yielding, for once I will resist, I am so scared, I beg you to desist!" When you realize that this is somethng that you no longer want to have in your life, and this poem indicates that you've had your fill, then the healing can begin. I was told that I am a writingroom discovered author because of the poetry that I've written, and sharing my thuths about my addictions. Because I have been clean for fifteen years now, I can write about what I went through as a drug addict, and end my poems on a positive note, so as to help others realize that if they truly desire to be free of any kind of substance addiction, that it can be done, because if I can do it, anyone can do it.

I know how you feel here for I had a double monster to beat too. Read my poem "I Love My Freedom" and I hope it gives you strength to keep on fighting.
