Cookie Crumbs & Smudges

Cookie crumbs and smudges,

fingerprints on the wall

That's what it's all about

and a parent sees it all.

From babyhood to toddlers

from teens to grown-ups too;

A parent worries 'bout their own;

that's just what parents do.

But most of all we love them

and hope we teach them right

From the moment they start crawling

even more, when out of sight.

Parenthood comes easy,

though some may think, Oh No!

This is something I'm not ready for -

just 8 more months to go!

Before I see this little face

Who kicks and hiccups inside.

Whoever said it gets easier ...

I'll tell you now, they lied.

But then again I must admit

Grandparenting is the best!

As you watch your little grandkids

put their parents to the test!

Yes, cookie crumbs and smudges

and fingerprints on the wall;

They used to be a big deal,

but I've realized, they are small.

For the ones that place them everywhere

I smile and wipe them away,

Cherishing these precious moments

in my every single day!

Synopsis
As a young parent, I remember cleaning little smudges from every surface my kids touched as they played during the day, making sure everything was in its place and cleaned each night. Now as a grandparent I watch my kids do the same thing and I have come to realize time spent cleaning their little smudges isn't as important as playing with them & spending time with my grandkids. Finger painting and being messy while baking is really Ok ... it all comes out in the wash.
