A Different Shade of Brighter

I live alone,
it wasn’t always this way.
All the women I have loved
have left, gone to live
in high-rise concrete boxes.

 I live by the sea
where the salted breeze teases
the dark green curtains,
one of the many things she mentioned
she had grown to despise.

It’s good to live alone. There’s more room
to let the hurt settle in,
more space to let the memories out
to change to water and disappear
into the warm white sand.

I will have to adjust, remember to shave
every second day,
replace the curtains with a brighter colour.
A more staying shade
It’s good to live alone
sometimes
            for awhile.
