You're Not Mine Anymore

The last time that I saw you was so many years ago
Yet it only seems like it was yesterday...
I was leaving from the airport and my face was all aglow
As the plane that I was on soon flew away

My soul felt so elated as I thought about the words
That you shared with me before I took the flight
So to comfort me you hinted of a love your heart hazards...
Yes…, to know your heart would skip for me - felt right

Though we hadn't ever married... I considered you my life
'Cause there's nothing that I didn't want with you
And through all the years you cared for me and acted as my wife
I have never since found love so sweet and true

Some years are now behind us and our lives have both moved on
You to travel... me to manage day to day
As the emptiness inside me fades, my hopes are all but gone
'Cause I don't know how to 'breath' another way

The man that you have loved for years and claims you as his own
Is the one you gave your heart to - as you swore
And although you don't belong to me,  my ache for you has grown
'Cause you're never going to be mine anymore

It is really hard to say good-bye. I think even after years sometimes we long for those we have cared about we don't see anymore. You articulated those feelings so well.

So sad is the goodbye and then the alone hours when we think about that special one that is gone. That brings back the pain and that empty feeling. You tell it very good here.
