My Valentine's Day Gift To You

You told me "Be reflective" of the gifts I share with you
"Show your thoughtfulness - describe them to a 'T' "
'Cause once I turn them over. . . then I'll bid a fond 'adieu'
And to you, I'll share just what they mean to me

You've asked me, to your credit, to give something personal
Something special that has meaning in my heart
Yet. . . it need not be expensive or extravagant in scope
Just a piece of me - of which my soul has part

So to that, the gift I'll offer is my 'Under Confidence'
It's the one, you know, that hasn't seen its worth
And I'm getting rid of it this time - I'll place it in your care
To be baptize by the 'Fire of New birth'

And to that, this too I'll offer; it's my 'Sense of Worthlessness'
It's the one that made me feel I was too small
So should you my dear friend handle this I'll love you that much more
But for now I'll offer just these two - that all

I use to wear them close to me; they were companion friends
That my life was so defined - as things I wore
But now to you I’ll offer them. . ., the future now depends
On the hope we'll never see them anymore
