A Moment of Silence
A moment of silence,
Lost henceforth in time.

A break in the violence,
A pause of the mind.

Time stands still,
For thoughts of the wise.

Tears begin to fill,
These bloodshot eyes.

Deep regret immortalized,
Upon the soul of the damned.

Wisdom once prized,
Innocence robbed and scammed.

The sky turns most dark,
As the sun sets at night.

Heaven's bright arc,
Angels take flight.

The grains of sand stop,
Upon the mind of a saint.

Day and night swap,
My body feels faint.

Visions of your passing,
Rage burns in my heart,

Guilt forever lasting.
Shred me apart.

I, too have been through this, and recently. No matter what people say, we who are left behind are always left with that doubt. Understand that the slavery to substance is the reverse of your spirituality, and is an entity that is very powerful. Everyone who has a 'moment of silence' for their lost one feels they might have saved them--their loss can only be a deterrent to others, that they don't go down the same road. It will get easier to bear with time.
