inquiries
What is a poem?
Is it something daily and ordinary,
Merely a selection of words
Shaped
For our
Liking?
Or is it something much more,
Something unexplained,
Undefined,
Unknown,
Uncared for and ignored because of
It's complexity,
Because of
It's mysteriousness?
How many in the world,
Like I,
Wonder of that which has never
Been wondered of?
Has never been cared for,
Or probed curiously and gently
For the answers to the unanswerable?
Who among us, like me,
Finds much more,
More than believed
To be
Possible,
Finds something so wonderful
In something
So
Seemingly simple?
For thus a poem
Is like a question,
Each an inquiry of life
and existence
In my eyes.
And...
Is it our job to find answers?

This is definitely one of those poems that provokes thinking. You are definitely a naturalist of writing. Words just flow from body to ink unto that of the blank paper, and this is an amazing example. Many of us question, and from others' questions others' find answers (If that makes any sense at all). In which case, many different view points are held, but everyone's opinion is expressed in some shape or form. This is one of them. It is a simple wonder to beheld and radiate in. Signed, Jake

Don't tell me you don't do poetry! I think you could write just about anything, Mooney. You ask, "What is a poem?" A boy in my poetry class wrote that poetry is like diarrhea. (You can glean from that whatever you want.) To me, poetry is an expression of whatever you are thinking or experiencing at any given time. Food for thought...

Each poem has a purpose, don't you think? Expression, silk from sows' ears? Some people find answers in what we write -- and the surprise of hearing others' interpretations, when we never set out to say what it means to them? Any creativity is such a gift--I get a line or 2 ricochet around my skull for a few hours, and watch it grow when I get to the keyboard---how cool is that? Keep writing!
