Pair of Poets

A wonderful intrusion,
How it happened, I'll accept.
Compels a dedication,
To that evening when we met:

To the chance association,
Pair of poets, one who sings.
Neither thinking inspiration,
Can't believe in all those things.

You say that you will miss me,
Those long nights til I arrive.
In this moment I am happy,
And I ask you to "take 5",

To sit down now and read this,
See how I will pass the time,
Realizing I'm not loveless,
And I'm really, thank you, fine.

Truly then I didn't see you,
Being where I was before.
Those so many times you came through,
Sad, my back was to the door.

I guess, then, I was sleeping,
Could have not yet opened up,
To that gaze that you'd been keeping,
For the time when I grew up.

You promised you'd put music,
To a line I'd write this week.
This verse, perhaps you'll use it,
And your tune will let us speak:

Of that chance association,
Pair of poets, one who sings.
Neither needing inspiration,
Who believes in all those things?

This piece has such a lovely feel to it! Very sweet ballad! You're such a good poet, Michele!

Synopsis
Excerpt from my book "Ink Melodies". This won an 'editor's choice award' from poetry.com, as well as runner-up recognition from WR last year. Written in 1982.
A Word from the Writer
I can't say if the darling composer for whom this poem was written ever was inspired by this to write a song, but he really enjoyed the poem. I've always written my own 'music' anyway, hence the title of my book "Ink Melodies".
