14 Hours To Save The World

Int. Apartment, Kitchen, Morning

DAISY, a young twenty-something professional is in the kitchen fixing herself breakfast. CALLAHAN, a slightly older man in a business suit wearing some kind of backpack (its indistinct) enters the kitchen and stops. He quickly checks his wristwatch.

CALLAHAN
Oh! Uh, you're up. Uh...

DAISY
People that have to be at work in an hour usually do that. You were out like a light after last night. Wasn't sure if you planned on breakfast.

CALLAHAN
Yeah, about last night...

DAISY, holding a coffee cup, saunters over to CALLAHAN and kisses him on the cheek with a smile.

DAISY
Oh, I don't think you have to say anything about that.

CALLAHAN gently pushes her back.

CALLAHAN
Okay, this is getting really awkward.

DAISY
What are you talking about?

CALLAHAN
Look, you're going to call me a jerk and slap me in the face, but...I think last night was a mistake.

DAISY slaps CALLAHAN in the face.

DAISY
If I'd known you were such a jerk, I'd-

CALLAHAN
Wait, look. Its not you. I think you're great! Its just that there's a lot going on in my life right now and I'm really not the kind of guy who can be there for you.

DAISY gives him a dirty glare and CALLAHAN looks anxiously down at his watch.

DAISY
Hey, I'm the one who has to be at work in an hour, what's your excuse for fidgeting around?

CALLAHAN
(defensively)
I've got places to go too, you know!

Daisy
Yeah? Where?

CALLAHAN
Well...important ones!

CALLAHAN looks down at his watch again.

CALLAHAN
Though I suppose it won't matter much if I don't get there in two hours.

DAISY
Oh please, spare me the melodrama! Last night was bad enough with your whole "only have fourteen hours to save the world" joke.

CALLAHAN
What? I figured you'd be interested in the world being saved, what with all your stuff being here.

CALLAHAN looks down at his watch again.

CALLAHAN
Besides, that was twelve hours ago.

DAISY
I'm NOT falling for that again.

CALLAHAN
(muttering)
Won't fall for anything ever again in two hours if you don't shut-

DAISY
What was that?

CALLAHAN
Nothing.

CALLAHAN sighs and rubs his eyes.

CALLAHAN
Look, I'm really sorry, and I wish I didn't have to go take care of this thing since I really do like you.

DAISY
So you're not just trying to weasel out of here.

CALLAHAN walks up to DAISY and kisses her cheek. You can clearly see the jetpack on his back now.

CALLAHAN
Baby, I would love to call in sick this morning, but that just won't fly with my bosses.

DAISY'S expression softens. CALLAHAN picks up a large bucket-like helmet from the table and starts for the door.

DAISY
So I can count on you to call when all this blows over?

CALLAHAN
You bet, sugar.

CALLAHAN winks at her and puts the helmet on and exits.
