June Bugs In August

I wallow in the summer sun and with logic and simple reason,

Plans and hopes move me on, to wait the coming season.

Yet with all the bumblebees in flight, the butterflies, the slugs…

The crickets as they sing at night, my only fear was June bugs!

For with the brightest month of all, the time when play begins,

Their iridescent glowing calls, the springtime to an end.

Thus, I plant my feet upon the road, of which my dreams are made-

Disheartened as a storm unfolds, that’s caused the path to fade.

Anxious for the weather to pass, I pray the rain stops soon

And re-pave a stronger road to last, all in the month of June.

Moving on, unwilling retreat, with the sun so hot and dry-

Blankets of blue cool tired feet, to the seagulls lullaby.

I close my eyes only to breath, and realize in my dismay,

The time has come for June to leave, with the roads end far away!

The days grew longer and before I knew, -came July’s embracing hug-

But the piercing sun with all anew, showed no sign of that bug!

The little creatures never came, perhaps they had passed me by-

Would nature ever be the same, with June Bugs in July?

Yet, nonetheless I continued the travel, the end almost in sight..

And even as the road turned to gravel,- I still searched for their flight.

But no beetle bugs’ night hissing, as my anticipation grew.

With every step I kept on missing the June Bugs that I knew!

And just as I woke to the dawn, one day before my eyes…

Dancing all across the lawn, beneath the great sunrise,

Was June Bugs- full and green, humming over my roads end-

Nature’s glory unforeseen, just like the human trend…..

For these insects I once loathed, with anxiety and trust…

Revealed at a twisted road, it’s only natural to adjust.

One cannot count on the time of things, to happen as we know..

For sometimes in August the June Bugs sing, yet we move on and grow!

Perfect closing: One cannot count on the time of things, to happen as we know.. For sometimes in August the June Bugs sing, yet we move on and grow! Loved the way you wrapped nature in with life's progression!

Very eloquent. One thing--instead of "Dancing all across...Was June Bugs," I think you should say, "Were June Bugs." By the way, where I live when we say, "June Bugs," we are referring to small brown bugs that fly and bump into things a lot. It confused me a little when you referred to their iridescent glow and their color as green. The June Bugs I think of don't hum, either; they buzz.

This poem takes me back to those summers of past when we would pick up and on Junebugs. For you to mix the junebugs in with life's journeys was very skillful. I see your talent already and this is only the second poem of yours I have read.
