Looking Good
The problem with poverty is that
It’s only a problem for the impoverished
For the rest of us thedestitution of our fellow man
Is a cloudy spot in an otherwisesunny life
The people in need of the mostgenerosity
Are left to glean over yesterday’stable scraps
People with surplus resources usethem to feed
Their endless quest to sate theirbottomless avarice
The processes that encumber ourbureaucratic government
Have slithered deep into theinstitutions that foster charity
Giving a hand up to those whofall is more for show
Used to mimic the image of compassionand caring
The problem is that too manypeople worry more about
Looking good than they do aboutactually being good.
