Forget Me Not

“It is better to burn out than to fade away”,
That seems like such a strange thing to say.

I want to do both, why should I have to choose,
If I burn out and fade away I simply can’t loose.

Don’t bury me in a crypt under “hallowed” ground,
Nor to a mausoleum should my memory be bound.

I want a funeral pyre, just stoke the fire and let me burn,
Then take my remains to a mountain top and empty the urn.

Scatter my ashes into the great winds of nature’s divinity,
In that high place just let me go, set my spirit soaring free.

I ask you to do this, so that when you return to life’s journey,
No matter what happens the wind won’t let you forget me.
