Grandpa Google
After asking my wife an inane question tonight, she replied that she wasn't sure and that I should 'look it up'. Because we're both fully immersed in this era of instant information (however shady the source) via the internet, I immediately knew what she really meant was, "How should I know, go Google it."
We've had several conversations about how we can scarcely remember not having the internet's content to confer with about the most basic of questions, procedures, recipes, show times, etc. We even wonder how we got along before at all. It's staggering to me to realize how relatively ignorant I used to be. I'm sure most of us would be supremely embarrassed to share the dumbest thing we've ever Googled.
I suppose many previous generations looked to their previous generations for such information. Grandpa showed them how to change the oil in their car and Grandma shared her recipes. They asked Dad why the sky was blue and asked Mom why Uncle Bob makes that noise when he yawned. Now we often ask Grandpa Google.
