The movie I chose for Project 2 to summarize its Three-Act structure is "The Hangover". I thought "The Hangover" would be a good movie to chose based on its story and great comedy.

Act One
  • Introduction To Characters and Conflict: Doug, Phil, Stu and Alan are friends that go on a trip to Vegas for Doug's bachelor party. Leslie Chow makes an appearance about half-way through the film when they find him in Doug's father-in-laws Mercedes trunk. He is later found to be a Asian gangster than makes demands with the group of friends. Tracy, Doug's finance is introduced in the start of the film and makes small appearances throughout the film via phone call and larger appearance at their wedding. Jade, a Vegas stripper, marries Stu after their crazy night while Stu still has a girlfriend, Melissa, back at home. Melissa is brought up on their trip to Vegas about her incident of sleeping with a bartender on a cruise and is shown with Stu a few times throughout the film. During their Vegas trip they lose Doug after a night of partying and is to be found quickly before his wedding in the upcoming days.
  • Dramatic Premise: Lost Person, the group of friends must find Doug after a night of partying for his wedding in the upcoming days.
  • Ordinary World: Las Vegas, Nevada / Caesars Palace / Hospital / Wedding Chapel / Impound Lot / Mike Tyson's Mansion / Jade's Apartment
  • Inciting Incident: The night they get into Vegas and check into Caesars Palace, the group of friends head up to the roof to announce a toast to Doug and his wedding to be. What is not told is that Alan puts roofies into everyones drinks.
Act Two
  • Obstacles: After the group of friends wake up from their drug induced night, they make multiple attempts in finding their friend Doug. First attempt to finding Doug was the visit to a local hospital after Phil notices a bracelet from that hospital on his wrist. Second attempt in finding Doug was them visiting a Wedding Chapel where Stu and Jade got married during their crazy night. Third attempt is when they visit Jade at her apartment to find out where Doug may be. While at the apartment, police officers storm in, taking the friends to the police station. The fourth attempt is a trade with the officers for their freedom by returning a stolen police car that is their transportation till this event. While at the police station they are able to get Tracy's fathers Mercedes out of impound which contains Leslie Chow in the trunk.
  • First Culmination: A point where the friends are close to achieving their goal of finding Doug is when they return Mike Tyson's tiger to him in exchange for information (security footage) on Doug.
  • Midpoint: Leslie Chow approaches them after leaving Mike Tyson's mansion for them to return Leslie's bag filled with Casino chips worth $80,000 that they accidentally took from the night before and offer to trade Doug for the money. The friends have Alan count cards in the casino to get the $80,000 for the trade for Doug.
  • Climax: After collecting the $80,000 from counting cards, they meet Leslie Chow in the desert to offer their trade. When they come to the exchange they are greeted with a masked man who is said to be Doug. After exchanging the money, they unmask the man to find that its not the "Doug" their looking for but a man with the same name.
Act Three
  • Denouement: Stu remembers from earlier in the film that someone threw their mattress out the window and was caught on a statue at Caesars Palace, but hotel windows do not open in Las Vegas and that was Doug's way of trying to contact someone to open the door that locked him on the roof the other night.
  • Resolution: The resolution of the film is that now with Doug found, to return and get Doug married to Tracy. On their way they have multiple people help get them ready, such as a friend of Alan that drives up next to them with tuxedos, and they get dressed to just make the wedding in time. Stu also leaves Melissa to later be with Jade to start a fresh new relationship with her than just becoming married out of no-where.

The Exposition in "The Hangover" occurs in the first act. Background information of each of the friends (Doug, Phil, Stu, and Alan) is given to develop character to each of them. Doug's only information given is that he's marrying Tracy and his involvement and relationship with her family. Her father trusts him with his Mercedes and her brother (Alan) sees him as a brother/good friend already. Phil is a middle school teacher that had his students bring in money that he later uses to gamble in Vegas. Stu is a dentist that always states that "He's a doctor" and Phil always follows with "He's a dentist". Stu also is seen as a person that can be "run-over" and a push over to agree with his girlfriend. Alan is seen as a strange/weird individual that is unique in his own way, which later helps in winning the money to potential get Doug back.
