Wired Magazine November 2006: The Outsider by Steve Silberman
The article I read this week was on Darren Aronofsky's Film, The Fountain. The article starts speaking of Darren Aronofsky's breakout films Pi and Requiem for a Dream. Then goes into how Darren Aronofsky got inspired to do a sci-fi film from watching the movie Matrix. Darren's goal in this movie was to reinvent space without using CGI. Later in the article they explain how they set off to accomplish this goal by hiring a man named Peter Parks. They planned to shoot these space scenes using a device Peter Parks calls a microzoom optical bench. This device can magnify a microliter 500,000 times according to the article. To create the illusion of space the crew added dyes and oils to the water and maginified them.
