White Jasmine

White jasmine,

So fragrant and rare

Caught capitalism’s stare;

And now locked in a nightmare

Created by new age crabs

And bladed words that back stab.

White jasmine,

Overwhelming with scent of the flag.

The sun and stars they brag.

But in truth, the reds and blues are gagged

By the inanimation of material lust

And the works of false trust.

White jasmine,

Oh my jasmine!

Once sold in the streets,

Now auctioned to the world.

My poor jasmine,

Hope your voice could be heard.

I have an old barrel planted with beautiful white jasmine with glossy leaves--my 2 little cats sleep beneath it for the shade and maybe the fragrance(?). It loves the heat and the sun--I didn't know it was your national flower--I'll think of it a little differently now!

This is terrific..your words are strong and meaningful..I can feel the love for country and the sadness from the users and abusers who washed upon her shore just to take what they needed and moving on..this piece stirs me because this is the type of poetry I like..poems that speaks loudly and proudly, making others pay attention whether or not they want to or not..one love my sista.

Really beautiful and poignant, sorta of a cry for a beloved country ravaged by outsiders who plunder natural resources for material gain, leaving behind a nasty wake they don't have to deal with. I'm not sure what country you're referring to. By the way, I love jasmine.... Where I live, we have yellow jasmine and I named my daughter Jasmine because it's so beautfiful, fragrant. Thanks for an nearly equally lovely poem.

WISH I COULD DREAM FOREVER

Selene, enchantress of the night,
Chain me with light
To this wonder –
My dream’s zephyr.

Let me drift to a paradise
Where no one lies,
And no disdain
Runs through my veins.

Whisper me Endymion’s curse –
Zeus’ spell verse,
So dire sunbeams
Won’t fail my dreams.
