South Street

South Street

South Street is like no other street in the area, most streets take you from here to there.  South Street took you everywhere, just close your eyes and there you are, in any wonderful place that you’ve dreamed about.  When he snow came down and the streets were completely snow covered, South street was a soft glassy picture, the ice gleaming like freshly shinned glass so sparkly so clean.

South street had a pulse of it’s own, every time the subway rumbled underneath it was like the rush of blood flowed through it’s veins.  The street lamp flickered as if winking at me to stay and dream.  I would dream of far away places and far away lands with strange names.  My greatest adventure came when upon a sunny day, while cutting some classes; I lost my favorite tennis ball down a storm basin while in the ninth inning of a mean game of curb ball.

A dragon lived on South Street during the winters it hibernated, but in the summer time it was out on the hunt.  It shot out steady streams of powerful water while we danced and teased it. We tried our best to get it even more angrier so it would shoot the cool spray of water even further and boy what a delight on those long hot summer days.

South Street got old one day and fell deafly ill, it never recovered, ill never forget that dreadful day.  When the city road crews came and shut done old South Street and detoured the traffic away.  Now the years have come and gone South Street is still closed down and in need of repairs.  But to me this is where I still come to dream and play. On those scorching hot summer nights, I still rattle the old dragon so he can come out to do battle and play.  So South street always my friend, I’ll always remember you no matter what city or town im living in.
