The ethanol rip-off

We went to five gas stations today before we able to find gas. The problem was the other stations had a 10% ethanol mix. Normally ethanol mix is sold primarily in the discount gas stations. Did you know that an ethanol mix of 10% decreases your gas mileage by about 15%. It's not as efficient a fuel as gasoline. In fact, it takes a gallon and a half of ethanol to give you the same energy as a gallon of gas. Also, the moisture that gets trapped in it rusts out tanks and pipes (thats why they need to truck it) and if it separates out to much and you get to much ethanol in your car the engine can blow the heads off or bend rods. Some cars won't start on a cold morning and they get towed in and the only problem is the fuel. Potential problems include engine knock, fuel system gum deposits being stripped away causing fuel filter blockages and plugging fuel metering components, perishing and swelling of the elastomeric and plastic materials in the fuel system on older vehicles, increased evaporative emissions from vehicles' fuel systems and increased aldehyde emissions from tailpipes. And if the above wasn't enough, ethanol is an environmental time bomb.

WARNING:  Check your owner's manual before you use ethanol/ethanol blend in lawn tractors, lawn mowers, gar trimmers, outboard engines, chain saw, or any gas power appliance.  I do not know any manufacture that doesn't warn against ethanal and it will likely damage your engine.

Ethanol cost about $1.00 per gallon but my local Shell Station is selling it in a 10% blend for around $4.00 a gallon.  What a deal!  So for the same price as regular gas I get half the milage!  This is just not right.
