You Built Your House on a Sand Dune

You Built Your House on a Sand Dune

By Elton Camp

Hurricane Sandy has come and gone

Homeowners now will begin to moan

The storm came and blew my house away

So insurance and FEMA ought to pay

These folks seem not to think it odd

To describe this as “an act of God”

But hold on there a minute, please

Who’s to blame for such as these

You chose to build on a sand dune

Knowing a storm would come soon

Oh, but you so love your ocean view

It’s agreed, I’d like to live there too

But a certain, sensible inner voice

Tells me that’d be a foolish choice

If I build my house on shifting sand

I know full well that it won’t stand

So I limit myself to a secure place

Where far less danger I will face

If you must have your ocean view

Help from others you aren’t due

Synopsis
