The Class Reunion

The Class Reunion

By Elton Camp

The ten year reunion of our class

How quickly that decade did pass

Most of them look about the same

I could readily call them by name

A blonde woman that I met, though

Her name I somehow didn’t know

But she gave me a kiss and a smile

“Hon, I haven’t seen you for a while.”

Then I acted like I remembered her too

But she was well aware it wasn’t true

“Why such great friends we used to be,

And now you don’t even remember me.”

“Often we played and once had a fight.

One time at your house I spent the night.

I loved that you made the football team.

Your were very handsome, just a dream.”

Her coy chatter put my mind into a whirl

Why on earth couldn’t I recall that girl

If she ever had spent the night with me

My parents sure weren’t around to see

“You mean old thing, you can call me Jo.

But it’s all right, I still just love you so.”

I said, “But that’s a name I can’t recall.

Not a classmate had that name at all.”

“I did, honey, but what you need to see

Back then, on the end there was an ‘e.’

That was before the operation was done.

Now to be called ‘Jo’ is much more fun.”
