Old Uncle Jake

Old Uncle Jake

By Elton Camp

Jake, in his heyday, was a mighty man

He could do as much work as any can

He created for himself a comfortable life

Surrounded by children and loving wife

The children grew up and moved away

At the home place Jake and wife did stay

About five years ago, Aunt Sally died

It was only in private that old Jake cried

After that, things were never the same

Even the house so run-down became

Jake had lost all the sparkle from his eyes

That his health began to fail was no surprise

He was sitting on his porch with bowed head

And when I lifted his hat, I found he was dead
